Colorado’s Sunflower Fields

Every year we hear about the expansive sunflower fields in eastern Colorado that all bloom towards the end of summer, and last August we finally made it out to see them!

Dave and I actually spent one morning driving around the Denver airport in search of them. We wanted to see and photograph the flowers at sunset, and since that’s such a short window we wanted to find them ahead of time. We pinned a small dirt road that traveled right into the middle of a field, and returned that evening.

Walking through the endless rows of sunflowers was such a surreal experience. There was nothing but yellow for miles. We spent the entire evening admiring the large beautiful flowers and the incredible sunset over the Rocky Mountains. And of course I brought my tripod and fit in some family photos!
