Planned Spontaneity

Dave and I had such a great time camping at the beginning of June, that we took the R-Pod back up to the mountains the following week. We grabbed another site at Elk Meadow since we are now spoiled with full hookups, and spent the entire weekend wandering around the national park.

This time there was no plan; we didn’t schedule our day around a hike or have a specific destination in mind, we just drove around the park making decisions on the fly. We noticed the road to Beaver Meadows opened up, so we hiked to where we got married. Our two trees were still standing tall, and the view was as spectacular as ever. And we knew Biscuits was with us in spirit when we saw a single perfect dandelion growing near the exact spot we stood nearly eight years ago.

Dave continued to fish at every river access point we could find, and I took photos of every wildflower we passed. Moose were also becoming a reoccurring sight; thankfully this time it was from the other side of the river!

But no matter where we go, we always find ourselves back at Moraine Park. It’s just such a special place. There are always new wildflowers to photograph. The fish taunt Dave through the crystal clear water of the Big Thompson River. The layers and shadows of the mountains change throughout the day. And its pretty much a guaranteed spot to see elk; especially now when the mamas are bringing their new babies to lower elevations.

These small camping trips have been such a great escape that our next one is already booked!
