Leaf Lookin’ at Kenosha Pass

Our annual trip to Kenosha Pass almost didn’t happen. We woke up to ominous clouds lingering over the mountains, but decided to go for it anyway. And I am so glad we did – blue sky and sunshine greeted us on the other side of the storm!

Kenosha Pass did not disappoint. The mix of fall colors blanketing the hillside were shining brighter than ever. After passing a few dirt roads off the main highway, David spontaneously turned down the next one. It was Rte 60, and we had no clue what laid ahead. The road was very bumpy, with several potholes sprinkled in. Just as we were thinking of turning around, we drove up a hill that exposed gorgeous snow-capped mountains! We couldn’t turn back now!

There were sections of road completely surrounded by electric yellow and orange aspen trees; it was so unexpected and absolutely beautiful! David and I also stumbled across a lake created by the biggest beaver dam we’ve ever seen. Our adventure ended at the Hand Cart Campground, with beautiful sites tucked away in the woods, next to a oddly-colored orange river. After three years of visiting Kenosha Pass, I cannot believe we’ve never driven down this road! And I have a feeling we’ll be exploring others in the near future.
