Camping In The Rockies

bandd

Over the weekend David and I went camping in Rocky Mountain National Park. We were able to reserve a site in the Moraine Park Campground, which is usually impossible to do. After arriving around 3:00 in the afternoon, we set up camp (site A132), and just relaxed. We took Biscuits for a walk, passing by beautiful yellow aspen trees and a couple deer stealthily hiding in the bushes.

David made a delicious meal over the fire – lemon chicken, spicy potatoes, and asparagus. After dinner it was time for my favorite camping activity – roasting marshmallows and making s’mores. It was refreshing not having anything to do but sit by the fire with Biscuits sleeping in my lap, and listen to the elk bugling throughout the surrounding valley.

We woke up the next morning to an incredible sunrise over Moraine Park. The mountains were illuminated in bright red and pink hues, with a large herd of elk grazing in the meadow below. Before heading back home we grabbed breakfast at our usual spot in Estes Park, the Donut Haus. It was also pretty obvious that Biscuits had a blast being outside all day – a dirty poodle is a happy poodle.
