The Perseid Meteor shower was over the weekend, which gave us a good excuse to take our r-pod up to the mountains for a second camping trip. Instead of our usual spot at Camp Dick, we tried a new campground in Olive Ridge. It was tucked away in a dense forest of pine trees underneath Mount Meeker. The campground was a bit more rustic than expected. Each site was surrounded by trees, which made it very tricky to get our r-pod into. After a slightly dented bumper and a tree branch stuck in the awning, we headed up to Estes Park to decompress.
We took a walk along the river that runs through downtown. It was a completely different side of Estes Park that we’ve never seen before. We discovered new restaurants, shops, and parks full of humming birds! Once our blood pressure returned to normal, we drove back to the camper and settled in for the night. Dave grilled burgers, and I made some potatoes and corn.
The meteor shower was incredible. Not only was the night sky absolutely full of stars, but we saw so many large fire balls streaking across the sky! It made our little parking fiasco worth it.
