A Season of Change

This summer was obviously far from normal. As we were adjusting being a family of two, we started thinking about traveling, seeing family, exploring more of our beautiful state; but that all quickly turned into learning how to navigate life during a worldwide pandemic.

This is what visiting family looked like during quarantine.

And what some meals looked like due to the food shortages.

When the stay-at-home order was lifted, there were LOTS of bike rides on the trails around our neighborhood.

To keep ourselves busy we began a few home projects, like adding plants to our backyard.

We found a few caterpillars on a plant out front, and put a net around them to protect the cocoons until the butterflies emerged.

We discovered that our squirrels are quite photogenic.

We watched a massive supercell sweep through eastern Colorado.

When the safer-at-home restrictions expanded to include outdoor activities, we went camping in our R-Pod almost every weekend. One of our favorite trips was to Alamosa and the sand dunes.

My sister and her boyfriend are now just a few hours drive away from us, so we were able to spend a weekend with them camping in the national park. It was the first time seeing family in person since 2019.

Wildfires have just devastated Colorado. The entire mountain range is currently on fire, including one just 20 miles from our house. It’s absolutely heartbreaking.

Since outdoor activities were no longer an option due to the poor air quality, we started baking. A lot.

We also went on a couple short drives just to get out of the house. The surrounding farmland is so pretty, and there are lots of these cuties too.

Probably the most exciting thing to happen in our neighborhood. Our neighbor discovered a giant hornet’s nest in his tree, and the entire block came out to see.

The moment Dave knew I was going to make him sell his new mountain bike. Not even 2 weeks in before falling off and injuring himself.

We celebrated our EIGHTH wedding anniversary!

In late September when the leaves started changing, we did a quick trip up to Moffat Tunnel; although a piece of us was definitely missing this year not having Biscuits by our side.

It wasn’t exactly the summer we envisioned, but we did our best to adapt while still being a goofy quaran-team.
